Experience
Organic, Inc. – Creative Director (Jul. 2005 – Present)
I lead a team responsible for campaign development and new business pitches. I have also worked on Hilton, Hampton Hotels, Hilton Honors, Bank of America, Geek Squad, Intel, U by Kotex, Depend, Jeep, and the College for Creative Studies.
BBDO Detroit – Senior Copywriter (Dec. 2001 – Jul. 2005)
I extended developing Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge campaigns by working with non-traditional (aka 360°) marketing avenues. These included direct marketing, event marketing, interactive media and gaming.
Campbell-Ewald – Copy Supervisor (Dec. 2000 – Dec. 2001)
As part of the C-E Digital group, I created branded online advertising for existing clients and new business prospects, including Michelin, Navy, The National Fatherhood Intiative and Chevy.
FCB Worldwide – Copywriter (Sep. 1998 – Dec. 2000)
In addition to Jeep, Chrysler and Coleman, the digital team at FCB was able to look outside the agency network for new work. We created interactive ads for clients such as Warner Brothers and Comedy Central.
Campbell-Ewald – Writer (Nov. 1996 – Aug. 1998)
Working on Chevrolet.com was my first job in advertising. I had the opportunity to see the site through three model year refreshes, as well as create supporting new media elements and catalogs.
Freelance Writer/Editor (Jan. 1990 – Present)
I wrote “Techno Rebels: The Renegades of Electronic Funk,” published by Billboard Books in 1999. I have written for magazines such as Wired and Urb, and freelanced for clients such as Sony and EMI.
Education
I received an academic scholarship to the University of Detroit and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in May of 1990. My major was Management Information Systems.
Awards
Awards of which I am most proud are a Bronze Lion from the Cannes Festival for a interactive ad for Comedy Central, and Gold and Silver Pencils from the One Show for Little Caesars and “South Park” rich media banners. More recently, a Chrysler Sebring Convertible launch site I directed won an Adobe Site of the Day.
Lectures
Since “Techno Rebels” was published, I’ve had the opportunity to speak about Detroit music culture at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, UCLA and for the Shrinking Cities project in Leipzig, Germany.
Offline
I study beginning improvisation at Second City. I practice Wu style Tai Chi Chuan, but am far more lethal at Scrabble. Writing samples and references are available upon request.
